It seems like a huge "show boat", but that told only half the story. Of course care accessories from the BMW Performance line for a more pleasant appearance, but they also provide improved performance.

Take the alloy wheels, which are nineteen inches in size and feature beautiful spokes. These spokes, however, not for nothing that form: it's been optimized to direct airflow to the brakes. The spokes have remained another extremely thin, so the weight nice layer of the rim. And that the handling characteristics improves again. The calipers are yellow and have a nice BMW Performance imprint, but more importantly how well the braking system. Especially tasty: the 125i is very fast with it still.
This demo car BMW Netherlands was really all mounted what the catalog offer. Yet it is "only" a 125i with 218 hp, while the 1-series coupe also get the 306 hp 135i is. The reason is simple: the 135i has a twin turbo-block and turbochargers muffle the exhaust noise. The special exhaust system of the BMW Performance line is just to free the beautiful classic BMW six-cylinder sound. The airbox performed in carbon also creates a fuller note. At the same time should provide both exhaust and airbox for a minimal amount of extra horsepower but BMW does not give specific figures. We have learned from reliable sources that BMW later enters the Performance line with real engine upgrades. Although the manufacturer is still shrouded in silence, a force cure for the 135i and 335i seems a very logical option.
The six-in-line of the 125i is, incidentally, not a 2.5-liter, but 3 liters in size. In standard trim the block supplies 218 horsepower and 270 nm, which the 125i a top speed of 245 km / hour in 6.4 seconds and the 100 sprint. Not bad numbers, but blood quickly the 125i does not feel again. The six-cylinder engine delivers its power very smooth and linear, but the kick in the back is missing.
The steering wheel deserves special mention. It is nice and thick and Alcantara, but is also equipped with shift lights. When the orange lights speed by adjusting the driver lights up first, then the red and if there really must be switched blink. A great feature to win the last milliseconds during a street race. Between the shift lights includes a small display on which various kinds of information can be seen. With two invisible (under the suede) placed buttons let you display in the control to do what you want. The oil and coolant temperature you especially want to know if you have just woken you BMW'tje but later it might be fun to show the lap of the ring Amsterdam or Rotterdam. For what twistier circuits handlebar can also show the longitudinal and lateral accelerations in order to wrest the last few km per hour on the 125i.
Stiffer coil springs, firmer dampers and thicker stabilizers ensure that einser tighter angle about. Between the struts for is to find some kind of carbon boomerang. That the strut bridge to counteract the twisting of the body at higher loads. With the modified chassis and flatter tires 125i has become a wonderful mate machine with a lot of grip. A disadvantage which also brings with it: the 218 hp are barely enough to break the rear traction. The ultimate drift mobile is the 125i Performance not but a little force will be the ass again to come.
Now we're talking about ostentation: completely anonymously traffic I could not with the 125i. The combination of white, lowered suspension and big wheels that starts to become more common, but the 125i was also with another "athletic" striping. And the price list were lots of pieces with titles like "Aerodynamics," "Spoiler" and "Splitter". A lot of this stuff is carbon, like the mirror.
In the interior are also various carbon parts, which have really only fulfill an aesthetic function, but be honest: they do well. For the interior BMW has much more fun goodies available: aluminum pedals (90 euros) can be combined with the aluminum footrest (60). The short shift gear knob is extremely small, and even though again made of aluminum. Personally I found it a monstrosity that looks like a hobbyist himself put the blade in the normal gearshift.
The sport seats are delicious. The Alcantara-lined tubs look fantastic with silver accents and the BMW Performance logo. Moreover, they hold firmly your body so you sit on your seat stays during the inevitable curves. A major drawback sport tubs do have: the price is 1581 euros. Apiece probably know which seats are the most expensive accessory from the BMW Performance line. The total price of the tested car was pretty sustained: the register kept stabbing at a spacious 70 grand.
Probably no one will buy the car so, but of course that was not too BMW's goal. The test car is a showcase of the BMW Performance line. Everything is available, was fitted to the test car. Total is for 17,000 euros stuff. Personally, I would let the wheels and much of the aerodynamics for what it is, but opt for the custom chassis, airbox, exhaust, brakes and some loose stuff. Or maybe the sport seats, carbon chassis and a few ornamental trips. Hard to choose though, but that the existence of these things has been proven again. The diehard BMW fan can his / her 1-series and 3-series fully clothe your own taste.
